Cannot browse the Netbackup MSSQL Client

Hello everybody

When I click to start the the Netbackup MSSQL Client from my Windows 2003 Client, it doesn´t open.

My Netbackup server is 773 and the client is 77.

The log C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\logs\dbclient stops here:

Still unsupported.  You are lucky that some systems are working.

If you look at NBU 7.7 Agent CL, you will see that only SQL Server 2005 SP4 is supported on Win2008 and higher.

Try 7.6 as per previous suggestion.

    PS:
Are you aware that Microsoft has dropped support for W2003?

  • If it is a fresh install of either SQL or Netbackup on this client, you probably will have to reboot before it works.

Have some times seen that you need to open this GUI twice in a row to get the setup popup box where you set up the connection to the SQL server.

        Hi Andrich2016,

To me it looks like you are running an unsupported configuration.  You say your client is Windows 2003 and 77.  I am assuming that means a 7.7.x version of the NetBackup client?

I'm not sure of the version of MS-SQL you are running, but 7.7 onwards does not support Windows 2003.  It is not even listed in the Software Compatibility List for 7.7.x.

If you go back and look at the link you posted for the database SCL (7.0-7.6), note that Windows 2003 (all flavours) includes this footnote:

        4. NetBackup 7.7 and later does not support this operating system on this CPU architecture

So if your client really is 7.7.x on Windows 2003 I'm guessing that fact it's not supported may be why it's not working.  You'd need to downgrade the client to 7.6 and try again to see if it works.

I've never tried installing a Windows NetBackup client onto an OS that is no longer supported, so don't know if it gives a warning during install, or if it will just install anyway.

        Hope this helps,

        Steve

  • Have you checked the 7.7.x DB compatibility guide for the SQL version and OS combination?
