Catalog Backup Disk Failure in NetBackup

On my NetBackup server, the E: drive (which we had presented from a storage via SCSI) where I kept the Catalog Backups is unfortunately no longer accessible.

The storage has failed, and we can no longer reach that disk or its contents. Will this cause a major problem? I wasn’t backing up the catalog backups themselves.

Will I face any issues when restoring a backup? Or what kind of problems could occur, and what should I do

I am currently continuing to take catalog_backups on the F: drive. So I am able to back up.

  • Hi,

All depends... How did you take the catalogs backup via NBU-Catalog policy type? Was there any Storage Unit (STU) on this E drive, etc.

If there was STU on this E drive - I think image clean up process might have issues with removing the expired backups from this STU as it is no longer present...

Please elaborate more on the way you took catalogs backup...

  • if it was holding only your catalog backup, no major issues will be there.
you will need catalog backup in case of a DR(all sort of it) I recommend you always keep a copy of you catalog somewhere safe and accessible.

  • NetBackup is still using its active catalog. If I back up this active catalog now, can I use it when migrating to a new NetBackup version? (I’m planning to move the server to Linux and upgrade to the new version.)
