Catalog Backup take long time

Hi all,

we faced a problem with catalog backup after upgrading the netbackup from 7.5.0.4 to 7.5.0.6,the problem was the catalog backuptake more than 11 hours for 420 GB,any advice?

  • I have previous seen a complaint that catalog backup was slow after upgrade.
Problem is that we seem to be monitoring a lot closer after an upgrade and that previous slow backup was simply not noticed.

    Check catalog volume for fragmentation.
Use OS tools to check disk I/O or use bpbkar32 to test disk read speed.

  • Please send bpbkar and bptm log (like bpbkar.txt) thru attachements to see to where it is getting delayed

  • Which bit is slow - there are x4 jobs for a catalog backup. 1. Parent 2. Staging of NBDB 3. Backup of NBDB from staging area 4. Backup of /usr/openv/db/images I suspect it is number 4 that is slow. You could create a manual job to backup /usr/openv/db/images as a test (just make a regular policy). Does this backup any quicker ? You could also copy/ paste the details from activity monitor for the slow job - that is an excellent place to start looking. What are you backing it up to - tape or disk /msdp ?
