Client List in Registry
NBU 7.5.0.3, Windows:
On my Master server, in the "Clients" key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veritas\NetBackup\CurrentVersion\Config, I expected to see all 980 clients listed but I only see 9 clients. I was trying to troubleshoot a connection problem which led me to that key. Adding the problematic client didn't resolve my issue but I was curious as to why there are only a few clients listed in that key. Does anyone know what that key represents? I was just wondering. I have a smaller environment with 16 clients and only 5 show up in the Clients registry key. Another environment has 360 clients with 9 clients listed in the registry. Odd.
Google* tells me that the Clients key stores previously used clients from the Specify Machines and Policy type dialogue in the Restore GUI, which sounds correct enough that I will tell you that's the answer. (Actually, I just did an Edit Client List to confirm that indeed, that regkey IS what changes when you add a client, for example.) So that's what it represents and there's no way it will help you resolve your status 58 - classic good news/bad news scenario.
*a search took me to:
How do I clear the client list in the NetBackup Windows client?

While I'm sure this is documented somewhere, I couldn't find it quicker than just doing my own test. (See, nike_new, this is what we do when we don't know the answer - we test it on our own systems)
