client name (uuid) and yet more webui woes

Been here many many years and two posts in a week :)

I'm forced into using the webui to make Nutanix backups work properly (with file based recoveries).   Why can't it let me create a Nutanix based policy via CLI or the old admin console. The hypervisor policy type isn't fit for purpose.

Anyway the webui seems very awkward.  Why won't it let you export from the activity monitor?  Why can't we select and copy/paste either.  Someone has actively prevented that?  Why wouldn't you want someone to export to CSV at the very basic.  Some shady stuff going on here.  How hard can it be to make a list of backups export out for analysis.

So command line, bpimagelist shows the clientnames as

ff37194a-3e60-422e-89d8-5fcbbfb1803d_BLAHBLAH.nutanix.local

On the old VMware policy you can define how client names are presented, but there is no such option on the webui Nutanix protection plan.  Is there a command that you run to query what that uuid matches up to.  I've checked the db/images entries and not found anything of use.

After these decades using NetBackup it really seems like there is active work to force users into limited work flows (which themselves aren't completed).  I totally get wanting to uniform things and move away from the install admin console (I'm sick of reinstalling that regularly as well) but at least get your webui actually on parity before limiting our way forward.

"in my version Netbakcup 10.5, the only way to protect Nutanix is via Protection plan.I believe they are pushing new features on webui, thats why you do not see Nutanix in Java console.

"you can copy content (activity details of a job) , but you have a point, export option is missing there.again, you have NITA (netbakup it analytic) which should give such options to end user.

"for my version(10.5)on nutanix AHV>Virtual machine, it gives me name(&UUID) of VM available on the page

I totally feel you , but the way they have been giving version out (from 10.0 to 10.5 now) they are improving/adding so many features, but at the same time, some basic stuff seems to be missing.

    Cheers,

Oh its definitely getting better with each version.  And i totally believe that the webui should be the way forward, but this is supposed to be an Enterprise grade backup solution?  Having very basic functionality missing from us is nuts.   I wonder how many years we need to wait for this to be usable?  What are we supposed to do in the meantime?  I suspect the true answer is to consider other products

  • welcome to the NEW netbackup.
It is not a bug. It is by design (but bad design, of course).

you can see the vmnames only from webui

check this topic also about workflows design

      This is incredibly frustrating.
Maybe this is something we can get to via the API
