Configuring LTO4 and LTO5 media on Netbackup 7.1

We just upgraded to a new Quantum library with drives that work with both LTO4 and LTO5 media, but Netbackup 7.1 only discerns the media as HCART, not HCART4 and HCART5. Is there an update to Netbackup since the following article was written that introduces the HCART4 and HCART5 media types?

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH138891

I need to differentiate between the media types in the policies so that I can control the media usage.

Any help is appreciated!

  • There is no update available to add further tape 'densities'.

All you need do is select another density type that is unique (ie. not used),

Despite popular opinion, the different densities have no effect on tape performance or capacity, a LTO5 tape will perform exactly the same if defined as hcart, hcart3 or even 4mm.

I agree that this is not ideal, but at least for the time being there is no other option.

  • Thanks for that information! I was just reading through pages 396-401 of the administrator's guide and realized just how stupid my question sounded. Hopefully, this makes it into some "dummies guide" or another.

  • LOL - I had a good laugh reading you're post. No hard feelings - It humans to make errors. +1 from me
