creative license for "Keyword Phrase"

The normal verbage.......
The Keyword Phrase policy attribute specifies a key phrase that NetBackup will associate with all backups or archives for this policy. Windows and UNIX clients can then optionally list or restore only the backups that have this phrase associated with them.

Now other than listed above, is anyone using "Keyword Phrase" in more creative ways?Message was edited by:

  • I use the keyword phrase to enter note numbers on the policy:
note 01 = Do not run manually
note 02 = Do not alter backup window
note 03 = OS level backup for databases
note 04 = Start or end notify scripts
note 05 = Duplication script exists
  • We use flashcopies of our Oracle databases extensively, and mount them on a seperate media server for san-backup. The "problem" with this is that the client name on the images is of course the name of the media server....

To get round that we use the keyword phrase as the SID of the oracle database, which makes searches very easy. We also apply the SID to the archive logs backups, so we can easily get all of the appropriate backups for a single database.
  • Oh yeah - forgot this benefit as well, when restoring if you select the "Backup History" window to select the date range, then the Keyword phrase appears there as well - makes things easier.

Also good for narrowing down long 'bpimagelist' commands
  • We also use keywords for our Oracle Database and Archive log tape writes (non-vaulted). We currently do not use the RMAN - Oracle addon on all systems, so some of the systems use a custom script that write out the archive logs from the system to tape every half hour or so. The manual backups have the keyword set to identify the type of backup (oracle data or archive) and a Unix timestamp.
