Deactivate Media Server

hi team ,

i want to upgrade my Media Server (Windows machines) and on documentation said that i need to deactivate the media server.

do i need to do that or should i stop the services , run the update , start the services

and if i need to deactivate the media servers how i can do that , this is the command from Veritas

nbemmcmd -updatehost -machinename <Media Server> -machinestateop set_admin_pause -machinetype media -masterserver <Master Server>

i have two domains with two master and media servers all on windows environment , masters are already update to 10.1

thanks in advanced

  • You should just be able to run the upgrade. The installation/upgrade process will stop the Netbackup services and start them up again.

      Hi solomοn

What L_BR said is absolutely correct. That said, in a busy environment it is good practice to deactivate the media server prior to upgrade to avoid sending any backups to it during the upgrade.

  • And by deactivate the media server they do NOT mean decommission it!

Deactivating the media server "idles it" so it does not accept any new requests.
