From your short description 2 things could have happened.

    1. You deleted a media from the volume pool. Now AFAIK the only way this is allowable is if the media is unassigned. ie no data on it. So all you have done is delete it from NetBackup's database of where it believes it is, what you will have only lost is the total number of previous mounts and the first format fields of data for that specific media. Just reinventory the media to bring it back.
    2. If you have somehow deleted the media and it had backup data on it, and is nowhere in NetBackup's databases then use the Import function within the NetBackup Catalog section of the Administration Console. This will read the entire tape and catalog its contents. This will take time. This will allow you to bring it back to be able to restore it.

  • Hi Shine,

If your tapes has barcode ID, and you are using robotic library or tape autoloader,  you may just run inventory robot. This will automatically create a media entry for the missing tape and by default will be placed on the Netbackup volume pool. Just move it to the desired pool afterwards.
  • Hi ,

I am using robotic library  SL500 ( with 4drive and 1 robot) and i  just want to know that inventory robot will not impact my other tapes which are having a lot of production data ?If possible can you post the exact steps as i don't want to take any chances .

    Thanks

  • inventory will do no harm to ur tapes "UNIVERSAL STORAGE BACKUP TRUTH" it will read ur media id's i.e media name that's all.
    steps:

go to left hand side of Netbackup console.
    click robots.
    select appropriate robot.

    right click it select inventory
a small console will open up
on left it will show server name and robot name on it will show inventory options just select show contents then start

it will display all ur tapes which r present physically in library.u can find ur lost tape there in it
  • Thanks  all for  your help... I was able to get it back.
