Device Configuration Wizard shows Robot=Configured but Shared Drives=Unconfigured

Hi all

We have installed NBU 6 with MP4 on Solaris 10 Master/Media Server.

We have got SUN SL48 Library with two drives with robot.
Both path of the drives connected thru SAN Switches.

When we started Device Configuration Wizard (DCW) we have got following issues in certain DCW screens.

1. DCW is able to find the correct Media Server in when scanning hosts automatically

2. Is able to find the HP MSL G3 Robot on the Media server with state as "Configured" & Limitations as "None" in DCW Backup Devices screen

3. Is able to detect two HP Ultrium 4-SCSI Drives on the Media Server with state as "Unconfigured" & Limitation as "Yes, See Propertes".

4. If we continue, DCW shows Drag & Drop Configuration where it shows Robot Device which gives option to select it.

5. We could see two drives attached to the Robot which is shown as shared. However it doesn't allow us to select the drives

6. Standalone Drives is empty

7 If continue still we get a Warning - The following robot(s) are enabled but do not have enabled drives configured. Robot 0 - TLD. Further screen says that to utilize the robot at least one enabled drive must be configured in the robot.

8. If we continue here, the Netbackup displays drives as disabled for backup.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards
Ali

  • does your OS read the TAPE DRIVER correctly?
    things like:

    cfgadm -la -o show_FCP_dev

    c7                         fc-fabric    connected    configured   unknown
    c7::2100001086107794,0     med-changer  connected    configured   unknown
    c7::2100001086107794,1     tape         connected    configured   unknown
    c7::2100001086107794,2     tape         connected    configured   unknown

  • Hi,

          Are you using SSO? do u have the license for this? if not is ok if your drives are not shared.

  • Hi Lamp.box

    Thank you for the responding.

    Yes the tapes are showing correctly.

    Anyway, yesterday night we removed the Robot and drive device files and reconfigured again. Problem got solved.
    Will give more details once the field reports the exact solution they applied.

  • Hi Omar

    Thanks for response.

    Yes indeed SSO license is applied, infact Drives are automatically shown as shared instead of standalone.

    Anyways' as explained in my earlier reply, problem has got resolved after deletcted OS device files for Robot, drives and then regenerating back again. Will summarize after I get a full field update for you all.
