DFS Share Folder Backup taking Long time to finish using Netbackup

Hi to everyone,

I am facing Backup issue for DFS shares. The Backup is taking long time to complete and it extends the backup window. I am supporting Netbackup version 7.6.0.1. Could you please help me !!!

  • Backup Selection looks good, but to run 3 streams simultaneously, you need to change 'Limit jobs per policy' to 3 or more and select 'Allow multiple data streams'.

Change Media multiplexing in schedules to 3 or more.
Check that the STU used in the SLP allows concurrent jobs.

  • You should be able to multi-stream DFS folders. See this Best Practice TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO65638
  • Hi Marianne,

Thanks for the update. Here I am using Policy to backup some DFS data. I have attached the screenshot of the policy. Issue is that its still going out of time frame and its causing it to run in working hours. Also is it possiable for me to replicate more than 300 GB of data on this server. Please advise what should i do.

  • It's difficult to advise without knowing some sizes, timings and throughput figures.

    1) Exactly how big is the DFS backup data-set?

    2) How long did the backup take?

    3) What backup 'speed KB/s' do you see?

    4) How does the speed of this backup compare with other backups to the same target storage? i.e. how fast, on average, are other backups to the same target storage?

  • You shared everything except the backup selection. Have a look at the TN that I shared. Break down the selection into folders that can be multi-streamed. No idea what you're asking as far as Replication is concerned nothing to do with backups . .. if your backup is replicated to a remote site, that is a topic for different discussion.
