DFS using accelerator fails for one component

Hi Everyone,

DFS data is being backed out using Netbackup from Central File server.

         Environment details:
Netbackup Master and Media Server version: 7.6.1
Netbackup Client version on DFS branch Server: 7.5 - 7.5.0.7
Data is backedup using Shadow Copy component directive from Central DFS server
Repliation is unidirectional (From branch server to Central server)

One particular (branch server) shadow copy component backup fails with below status

5/26/2015 6:22:48 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=11280) from client pfg-bu4: ERR - Unable to backup System State or Shadow Copy. Please check the state of VSS and associated Writers.

5/26/2015 9:51:00 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=11280) from client pfg-bu4: ERR - Unable to backup System State or Shadow Copy. Please check the state of VSS and associated Writers.dir - 3 128 880 36960 8679532 -1 174 16832 root root 0 1432691353 1432691353 1432691353 1 /Shadow Copy Components/User Data/Distributed File System Replication/DfsrReplicatedFolders/Share (CBE8E267-1079-4036-B33F-14D4F033E5AA-819977D8-49BE-45F6-AF1D-F23B43A23DDE)/

There are same folder names from different branch file servers. Hence, a GUID is being used for backup. Is there any way to find out the corresponding DFS branch server folder name without using powershell? and Backup completed with a status of 0 although this folder was missed to be backedup. Wont Netbackup notify if there is single folder failure out of many replicated folders?

  • Probably best to look at verbose bpbkar log.

I cannot think of any other way to get detailed info from NBU poit of view.

  • Procedure to find GUID:

    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2009/03/23/understanding-dfsr-debug-logging-part-1-logging-levels-log-format-guid-s.aspx
DFSRADMIN.EXE and DFSRDIAG.EXE - You can use the DFSRADMIN and DFSRDIAG tools included with DFSR to enumerate the topology and determine the GUID's.

Justin also provide another way using (See attached doc for more details)
    Wmic /namespace:\\root\microsoftdfs path DfsrReplicatedFolderConfig get
