Do you install anti virus on a NetBackup appliance?

If yes, I'm trying to access the Linux command line environment in the following way:

Main_Menu > Support
Support > Maintenance
Maintenance > elevate

And this is what I've got:

maintenance-!> elevate
Permission Denied. Access to root account requires overriding the Veritas Intrusion Prevention Security Policy. Please refer to the appliance security guide for overriding instructions.

What should I do?

  • you missed a command (to override the internal IPS security)

    /opt/Symantec/sdcssagent/IPS/sisipsoverride.sh

and then after you put the maintenace password again, you need to specify for how many hours you want to disable the IPS, more details:

    https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/doc/96220900-127024912-0/v113564108-127024912

and for Antivirus question in the subject, NetBackup appliance (or any vendor specific appliance) does get handle with vendor, do not install any software without consulting the vendor. For Netbackup appliance as it is already hardened for security, I have never installed any security software on top of it.

In this page, it says "Veritas appliances do not support the installation of third-party antivirus software, including on application instances."
