DR server for production master server.

We have netbackup 10.1 physical master server and we want to create a DR server for it.

Can some one suggest how to create a DR physical server for our master server and it is also acting as media server too.

can we restore the catalog using different server name or we need to keep the DR server name also same as production server. if same name should we bring down the prod and then do restore to bring up the DR and then shutdown DR. and use only for DR purpose and currently no backups are running in it and it is kept only for old legacy restores.

    Hey,

    To what media you do write your backups? Is it still tape or maybe a MSDP or some other disk based storage OST?

    Depending on the answer to above question I would advice next, but the principals are as follow:

    • use the same hostname for DR primary as it is in production - you can't recover catalog on the other hostname
    • you can use different IP address - so the both primary can be running - but you have to disable all policies on the DR one - so the backups will not be initiated from it - there are other precautions you need to take into account

    You can also setup new NBU domain and do AIR etc.. but first pls answer to my first question.

      The legacy backups are in Tapes and currently no backups are running. we have a standalone tape drive and we will move it to DR when we required for DR purpose.

      I am planning to backup the catalog to a disk library and then restore it to the DR server.

      So as you said I need to keep the DR server to be same name. So I will copy the catalog backup and pckg file to the DR server and then shutdown the prod Master server and then rename the DR master server to Prod server name and also assign same IP.

      Then do a catalog restore and once server is up and restore is completed I will shutdown the DR server and bring up the prod server and keep DR server down and use only for DR purpose.

      Please correct me if I need to make any correction in my steps.

      Please share me any reference link and if possible outline me all the steps for this DR server build.
