Drive with NDMP configuration replaced

Hello,

Last week we had a drive in the library replaced.  This was the only drive with a NDMP configuration. If I go through the Device Configuration Wizard, I see no shared storage option license installed. We do have 1 ndmp license installed. I do remember that before the replacement, we had 2 paths on this drive, but when I try to add the ndmp client to the path I get the message 'Unable to add drive path to configuration. Shared Storage Option (SSO) is Not licensed (53).

How can we configure that second path to the ndmp client?

I've got a feeling it has something to do with the following command:
tpautoconf -replace_drive drive_name -path drive_path

But I'm lost, and yep I've seen the admin guide, but not in the mood to read 100+ pages or go through the forum with lots of possible hits.

Kind regards,

James

  • Did you actually delete the drive, as that shouldn't be necesary?

    tpautoconf -report_disc should show any missing paths followed by the command you quoted to re=configure.

  • Hi Andy,

    Thank for the reply. No, we didn't change anything yet. The command gives this result:

    D:\Program Files\Veritas\Volmgr\bin>tpautoconf -report_disc
    =========== Missing Device or no local control path (Robot) ===========
     Defined as robotic TLD(0)
     Inquiry = "ADIC    Scalar i500     586G"
     Serial Number = ADICA0C0188126_LLA
     Robot Path = {2,0,6,5}
     Drive = 1, Drive Name = bu03-root_hcart3_1, Serial Number = 1210305676
     Hosts configured for this device:
      Host = bu03-root

    Looks like that is the problem.

    Together with the TECH34296 article I will have a fresh look on it tomorrow (end of the day here and I'm tired). Thanks, so far.

    Kind regards,

    James.

  • Hi Andy,

    You were right on target. Today I spoke to a symantec support technician and he gave me temporary license. After entering that license, I was able to enter the path to the Filer and was able to run NDMP jobs again. Makes me wonder if we ever had a valid license. I will have to investigate that. There were four SSO licenses already there, but all expired on the same day. So I can't confirm if we ever had a legitimate one or that we always ran on a temporary license and that the drive change made netbackup check the validity of the license. Anyway, I'll have to check within the organisation and our account manager on the licenses.

    Thanks, we're running NDMP jobs again :)

    Kind regards,

    James

  • Yeah, I guess this was a one time only thing. After running that command again and again, it never showed any discrepancies again.
