Drives marked as AVR
Hello Friends,
I am preparing for Netbackup interview and came across one common interview question:
- If you have a SCSI attached robot and in device monitor you see the drives marked as AVR, what does that mean and how would you fix it?
On trying to search for a solution for the same, I came across a post which says that in this case the drives run with AVR (Automatic Volume Recognition) mode enabled.
What does this AVR mean? I tried to understand the same, but each time, I go through some information in relation to this, I get a bit confused. I would like to understand the concept of AVR in simple language.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Jecintha
Drives in AVR status means one of the following:
- Tape drives are configured as standalone (not in any robot)
- Problem with robot communication
Please let us know which NBU version and which OS on NBU server with robot control - troubleshooting is a lot easier if we have as much detail as possible.
Please also post output of:
vmoprcmd -d
tpconfig -l
(Windows path: <install-path>\veritas\volmgr\bin
Unix/Linux path: /usr/openv/volmgr/bin)
