Duplication between DataDomains partially failing

Hello,

we are currently facing strange behaviour during the duplication process between two Dell Data Domains.

Basically, there are on source location 3 VMs with respective VMware backups that are duplicated to the target location. All settings, software, hardware are same, there are no differences but the duplication job is successful only for 2 VMs, the last one always fails and is not possible to duplicate in any time.

Job error log:

  • Critical bpdm (pid=11720) sts_copy_extent failed: error 2060046 plugin error
  • Critical bpdm (pid=11720) image copy failed: error 2060046: plugin error
  • Error bpdm (pid=11720) cannot copy image from disk, bytesCopied = 0
  • Error bpduplicate (pid=205144) host MediaServer 1 backup id VMabc123 optimized duplication failed, media write error (84).
  • Error bpduplicate (pid=205144) Duplicate of backupid XXXXXX failed, media write error (84).
  •  Error bpduplicate (pid=205144) Status = no images were successfully processed.

I've tried to used different Media server, new storage unit, restarting the duplication chain, restarting every single part of the hardware infrastructure, nothing helped, situation remained same - two VMs are always successfully duplicated, one keeps failing.

What should be check in such case as a next step?

Thank you.

Tomas

  • I saw this post :https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100025274
as it seems this is datadomain error,is it possible to share ddfs.info file from datadomain,to understand the issue.

  • I have the filing that this is a datadomain error (plugin error).
First check if the ddboost plugin is the latest supported by data domain and netbackup
    versions.
Create and check netbackup bptm and bpdm logs for errors.
And finally check the datadomain logs for errors.

Also try to Verify a backup of this VM from both datadomains.
