Duplication of data to new STU

Hey guys,

I have a question how to duplicate all backup images from one MSDP to another.

We have one appliance where backups are goin via SLPs and now we want to add new appliance to our environment for duplication purposes.  How can we easly duplicate all data? If we add duplication to SLP it will only duplicate new images right? We need to copy also old images as this is requirement from business.

Br,

Piotr

  • The easiest way is to go to the Catalog, select "Duplicate", and apply all the filters needed to list the backups you want to duplicate.
Then, select the backups, right-click, and choose "Duplicate".
You don’t have to process all backup images in one run — select a few, run the duplicate operation, and continue as needed.

if you can create scripts you can use bpimagelist and bpduplicate to do the same.

Thanks for reply, I have one more question. How do you think we should proceed with adding Duplication as a child in SLP after backup? Can we do it now before we start duplicating old backups or should we wait till we copy every old backup?

        Hi piotr335

May as well start now - the first backups (or duplications) will start the "seeding" of the new MSDP pool which will help speed up subsequent operations.

Also - have a look at the NetBackup Appliance Administration Guide for the version you are using - there used to be the ability to migrate MSDP data from an old appliance to new - it is the "Migration Utility" and was located from the appliance web UI (physical appliance UI). You can tailor what and how much is migrated. It may make the task simpler (but I don't guarantee this).

        Cheers
