Duplication problems

Hi All,

Got a question about the Disk Staging Schedule. I've set it up for our Disk Staging STU with the final destination to an LTO library with one LTO2 drive. I've done the setup through the GUI.

What I see is that mostly three jobs get started and mostly two of them fail with server resources busy. I can imagine that, because I only have a single drive. But when I look a the schedule, it's not possible for me to tell how many jobs get scheduled (in the GUI).
I also noticed that sometimes 4 jobs get scheduled for the duplication.

How can I reduce the number of jobs that get started? Or if that is not possible how can I manage when the jobs get started, e.g. how can I manipulate it, so that the biggest image is the last one in line, instead of now being mostly the first in line?

Any help is appreciated.

Regards,

Richard.
  • very good informations can be found here :
    http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/280398.htm

To simplify : 4 jobs can be launched at the same time, each of them duplicating up to 25Gb of data (and up to the last images concerned), all other jobs will be queued in activity monitor.

Different retention periods generate different jobs, but default behavior can be modified for both the limit of a duplication job and the number of simultaneous jobs

    -----------------from the technote-----------------------
The bpbrmds process will look for a text file named STAGING_JOB_KB_LIMIT in the NetBackup directory on the media server that originally wrote to the DSSU. This text file should contain a single line with a single value: the desired data limit in kilobytes. This value can range from 1024 (1 megabyte) to 2147483647. (2 terabytes)

For example, to configure NetBackup to allow DSSU duplication jobs to occur in batches of up to 50 gigabytes per batch, the following command should be run:

    (UNIX media server)
    echo 52428800 > /usr/openv/netbackup/STAGING_JOB_KB_LIMIT

    -----------------from the technote-----------------------
NetBackup allows the user to override this behavior. The bpbrmds process will look for a text file named MAX_STAGING_JOBS in the NetBackup directory on the media server that originally wrote to the DSSU. This text file should contain a single line with a single value: the maximum number of simultaneous duplication jobs to be allowed for any DSSU relocation operation. This value can range from 1 (a single job) to 2147483467. (essentially removing the limit, in this context) Any value outside this range will be treated as if the value was 1.

For example, to configure NetBackup to allow no more than two simultaneous DSSU duplication jobs during a DSSU relocation, the following command should be run:

    (UNIX media server)
    echo 2 > /usr/openv/netbackup/MAX_STAGING_JOBS

    Hope this help

  • My disk staging storage problems started after I upgraded to 5.1 MP4. I'm still playing around with it. The touch files do give flexability but I'm not sure about this MP and potential bugs. May just be my environment. Anyway I am working with Symantec and going through the logs :)
