ejecting tapes from library

Hello!

I need eject tapes from library in two cases:

1. To replace corrupted tape.

2. To move tapes physically to another site.

In first scenario i need to copy data, which (probably) stored on corrupted tape to another tape.

In second, i need that data stored on tapes and i need to be able, restore backups from this tape if i need in future.

What is correct procedure for this operations ? Tape Library TS3200.

  • 1) Use 'Duplicate' function in Catalog section of GUI or bpduplicate from command line. Duplication will fail if data cannot be read. Once done, go to Media section of GUI, right-click on tape, eject. Expire images on faulty tape, unfreeze if frozen, delete Media Id. Destroy tape. 2) Go to Media section of GUI, right-click on tape, eject. Put tape back in robot when needed for restore.

  • If my user perform "user restore" opertation, from tape that hold outside of tape library, if there will be some message, that sujest user to put media N in tape library ? Or message will be sent to NetBackup admin ?

  • If the media isn't in the library the restore will just queue - any information about what media is needed can be seen via job details in Activity Monitor or when you "view status" when doing the restore

No message will be sent to any user or admin.

  • Yes. Restore progress log will say something like: 'Media is not in robotic library. Manual intervention is required'.
