Enterprise Vault closed index location backup

Hello,

about "Closed Index Location" in this Blueprints

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/netbackup-76-blueprints-enterprise-vault

and in this Whitepaper:

https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH147148.html

the statement is that the closed index locations could have their less frequency backup schedule.

My question is: if I have some open index locations and some closed index locations how can I exclude from daily backup the closed index locations if the only possible index directive is EV_INDEX_LOCATION=site name ?

With Netbackup EV agent is possible or not do this? or is possible only using 2 different "legacy" backup policy 1 for open index locations (backup physical path daily) and 1 for closed index locations (backup physical path weekly)

Regards

  • Hi Will

Closed Index Backup Policies (EV 10 and later)
These policies uses FlashBackup for Windows and is intended to only be used with Enterprise Vault 10 or later. Closed index locations would need to be on their own separate volumes to warrant a separate backup policy.

but as said by SymGuy-IT with agent for EV the only possible directive for index backup is EV_INDEX_LOCATION=<EV_SITE_NAME> so ALL Index Location will be backed up!

  • It is not possible with Netbackup agent in any version of EV.

You must use the scripts to backup the open and closed Indexes separately.

You can have a look this thread.

  • Hi Marianne

For Index it is not possible to backup Closed and open separately using agent. Its only for the stores...

  • You certainly can indeed backup closed, open, and ready partitions in the same policy.
However, consider that you should not..mostly because it would be a waste of time to backup closed or ready partitions with the frequency required for the open partitions.  Add to that, there is no way that I am aware of the exclude objects for this policy type on the client.

Marianne posted and excellent link ... nice short and to the point.
    See http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH176623

There is a larger and more detailed white Paper (attached) which takes you through the recommended policy configuration scenarios.

    Best regards,

    Phil

p.s.  Marianne,   I hope somebody from veritas sends you a big box of new veritas branded swag at some point.  Your contributions to this forum have been and continue to be extremely valuable.

  • Hi Phil,

Again, the query is about INDEX and not STORES!!!!

We can SURELY backup the Closed "stores" separately but not the closed "Index" locations using agent.....
