  • In-Depth Troubleshooting Guide for Status 84: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH43243
    (Old, but still valid)

As per above TN - NBU relies on OS for I/O, so, all troubleshooting needs to be done at Os level.

See manual for NBU and OS-related logs to be enabled for troubleshooting.

  • Be aware that status 84 is a generic write failure. It's often related to bad tape drives, but a fragile SAN infrastructure could also generate status 84's.

Inspect syslog or event log for SCSI sense codes:

If you find some - post them.

Have you tried to go through links in the replies to your post?

The Status 84 In-Depth Troubleshooting Guide tells you to enable bptm log on media server.
You enable the log by creating the folder.

OS log is Windows Event Viewer System log.

  • Found the issue on that tape where data are getting tried to save. Replaced that tape. thanks.
