Error illegal duplication (242) when reconfiguring deduplication on media

Hello,

I had configured deduplication in our "backup-media" server  (NB 7.5) as a local disk /storage1.

I want to reconfigure it again, so I removed from the Admin Console in the master server "backup" (NB 7.5) both the Storage Unit (/storage1) and the Deduplication Disk Pool associated to it.

When attempting to recreate it again through the "Configure Disk Storage Server" wizard, I have the folloeing error:

Creating storage server backup-media-operation would cause an illegal duplication (242)

DSM has found that backup-media already exists in the database.

How can I solve this? (I want to use the same /storage1 path on backup-media)

  • If the storage server aklready exsists you don;t need to create it again.  Skip this step of creating the storage server.

  • So the next step, in order to continue with the deduplication, should be the creation of a disk pool or a storage unit?

  • Humm,

I think it must be a mess already...

I'm using a media server (solaris 10) to set up the deduplication server.

To delete the it, I just deleted the storage pool and the storage unit from the Storage-> Storage Units in Admin console, but judging for your comment, maybe that was not the best way, right?

EDIT : I'l have a look at the info you sent and I'll be back.

  • It worked, but when recreating again the steps for the MSDP disk storage I have a new error. To not mess it with this resolved issue, I will post it as a different case.

    Thank you for your help.
