I'm a bit late to the game, but this may help someone who runs into this string (like I did). I was getting this error, then realized that the restore type was wrong. In the "Select for Restore" drop down box in the BAR, you have several options. I forgot I was previously performing a VMWare restore, and that setting sticks until you change it. Once I changed it back to "Restore from normal backup...", all was well. Sometimes, it's the simple things that eat up your troubleshooting time. ;)

What machine are you running this from master ? media ? client ?

Can you try the BAR gui from another machine

I cannot get to a test server at the second, but try looking in the bprd log when you try starting the GUI.

This message is from the master server, but when i try to run BAR gui from a client i have the same issue

Is this happening with the Admin Console or the Java console? If the java console then set-up the following logs on the master server:

c:\program files\veritas\netbackup\logs\bpjava-susvc\

c:\program files\veritas\netbackup\logs\admin\

c:\program files\veritas\netbackup\logs\bpcd\

increase logging for the master server to the highest.

Recreate the issue, then post the bpjava-susvc, admin and bpcd logs. Let's see if anything is logged.

The folders for the logs we're requesting do not appear to exist - run the batch file to create them.

If UAC is enabled on W2008 (which is the default), even Admins need to 'Run As Administrator'.

Legacy logs do not exist by default. Log folders need to be created.
