Exchange 2013 and GRT

Since 7.6.0.3 no longer requires NFS for GRT backups how come I'm seeing this message in the job status: Error bpbrm(pid=12296) from client : ERR - Client for NFS service is either not installed or not running.

There really isn't a strait guide that shows how to get GRT running with Exchange 2013 now so what all needs to be configured? Just an account in the exchange client properties?

  • Humm - Haven't seen a Exchange 2013 yet.

But I did notice Exchange 2013 is mentioned in the release notes multiple times.

    From page 15

You no longer need to install NetBackup or Network File System (NFS) client services on a Client Access server (CAS) to perform granular restore technology (GRT) restores for Exchange Server 2010 or Exchange Server 2013. You also do not need to make any other configuration settings on the CAS for NetBackup. NetBackup now performs Exchange granular restores on the destination client that you configure or specify. As in previous NetBackup releases, NetBackup uses Exchange Web Services (EWS) to restore mailbox and public folder items. In the past, NetBackup used a local host URL to interface with EWS, and thus needed to execute on a CAS. Beginning with version 7.6.0.3 NetBackup began GRT support for Exchange Server 2013. NetBackup 7.6.0.3 and later can execute on any Exchange server that has access to the target database. From that client, NetBackup includes a discovered CAS in the URL that it uses to access EWS.

  • Yeah but I can't get it working. So it just mentions CAS server, so does it still have to be installed on the mailbox server?

  • From the way the release guide is written, I believe it only says CAS does not require NFS client services, but you will still need that in other Exchange nodes.

  • Thank you everyone. We're going to Exchange 2013 DAG so this is very helpful.
