Exchange DAG GRT+differential Incremental restore procedure

Hi, first i would like to sorry for my english :)

So, i've Netbackup 7.5.0.5 on 2k8R2, Exchange 2010, can anyone give me links or enything about restore procedure. My problem is i don't know how to restore particular email from differential. What i can do is restore for example particular email of user who delete it but only from full backup, i can't do it from differential.

What I'm looking for i step by step restore procedure what to do if i have case like above, i have full and diff. and i dont know how to restore emails from mailbox with diff. Should I markt full with differential both at the same time on timeline in BAR console, go to user mailbox and check deleted mails and then go to Restore or should I also mark checkbox Logs in Database to which mails belongs as well and then go to Restore? Do i have to prepare Exchange in some way before i start restore procedure?

thanks for answer

  • You cannot restore individual email from a differential backup because only transaction logs are backed up.

See this topic in NBU for Exchange Admin Guide

Limitations and conditions for restores using Exchange Granular Recovery Technology (GRT)

.... However, you cannot restore individual items from an incremental backup.

    And again under this topic:

Policy recommendations for Exchange Server 2010

Create a policy that backs up an entireDAGor one or more databases in a DAG.
This policy supports full, incremental, and user-directed backups.
To perform a backup with Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) select the
Enable granular recovery option. Then you can restore databases and
individual mailbox and public folder items. You cannot restore individual
mailbox and public folder items from any incremental backups.
