Exchange Mailbox Backup

Hi

In my test environment I am trying to configure NBU policy to backup Exchange Mailboxes. However I am having few issues. Please see the backup log below

none of the files in the file list exist(71)

 

I have done the following to ensure that backup works:

- Checked DNS

- Checked netbackup client service on the exchange server. It is running as admin (on local machine and exchange admin)

- Configured NFS as per the NBU7 Exchange Admin Guide.

- SIS in unticked in client settings

Both the client and the master server are running NBU 7 and I dont have any problems backing up exchange information store.

I have attached the relevent log files.

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Hi

    I am using Exchange 2007 SP3. I enabled NFS for GRT as I had two different exchange mailbox backup policies, one with GRT and one without GRT. I didnt realize that GRT only works if Information Store backups. When doing a restore from Information Store, the storage group database file needs to unmounted. Now this is bit dfficult to do as unmounting the db will affect several other users. Hence I decided to try out mailbox backup which allows restoring a mailbox without affecting other users.

    Anyways the problem that I was having above has been resolved by creating a mailbox for the service account under which the netbackup client is running. It needs to have an active mailbox to enumerate the mailboxes!

    Which Exchange version?

    "Configured NFS as per the NBU7 Exchange Admin Guide."

    Are you trying to config GRT? If so, the Information Store must be backed up. GRT enables single mail item restore from IS backup.  Mailbox backups (MAPI) with Exch 2003 and 2007 is configured differently and does not need NFS

    I am assuming you are doing 2010

    Look at your exchange databases in the DAG, you have a active and a passive copy - and each copy may be on a different server.

    In the policy you specify the dag name rather than the server.

    What I found is that the policy tries to talk to each server that the databases are on (either the passive or active copy - depending on which one you are trying to backup)

    the issue is if the physical server name is not a client on any policy - it seems the master server cannot talk to it.

    So you should at least setup a different policy that backups up just the C drive and the SCC and SS maybe.

    If you don't want that create a 'do nothing' policy with the physical server names in the policy (but no data selection or schedules)

    Once you get the physical server names in a policy the job should then be able to enumerate the different databases.

    I did an article (where my passive and active copies were in different NB domains - different masters). So if you are only dealing with one NB domain do the above, if two domains read the below article for some help.
