Expiration Date vs. Retention Level

Hi,

I change a tape expiration date with the bpexpdate -m <media_id> -d 10/11/2014 command.

the command did run successful, when I have a look into "images on tape" report, all images on that tape have a expiration date 10/11/2014. But what confuses me is taht the same report is showing a "retention period" of 6 weeks. So are the backups protectec until 10/11/2014? Or does the something expire in 6 weeks?

I read a lot of forum posts the last 15 minutes regarding this topic but no one was giving an exact answer.

So all I want to know: Will these backups be restorable in 10 Weeks?

    Changing expiration date will not change retention level in image database.

    If you really need that, you can use -recalculate -ret <retention_level> instead of -d <date>.

    I believe all images on that tape will be available until 11 October 2014.

    Volker,

     

    Yes if the images have expiration now as 10/11/2014 they will not expire. So you can restore up-to the expiration date.

    Hi revaroo, Marianne,

    what I need is a backup that can be restored up to 10/11/2014, regarless waht database NBU has to touch for this to happen. :)

    But ok, will mark both replys as solutions.
