ONLY recover old catalog backup to another server with same name that is in isolated network.
Also change the date on the server, otherwise expiration will kick in as soon as NBU processes is restarted.
If you restore old catalogs to existing server, you will lose all newer catalog info.
My 2c:
You need to run reports pro-actively. BEFORE images/tapes expire.
When all images on a tape expire, the tape gets 'unassigned' and all records of previous exiration dates are removed along with expired images.
If you have bpdbm logging on the master server, there 'may' be record of expiration.
So, to be pro-active, run 'Tape Summary' report with verbose option selected at least once a week.
