Frozen Media
Hi Experts.
I have 2 queries.
1: I just need to know that if media freezes some days back how could we know what caused the error? There are no logs in Device manager.
We didnot enable bptm logs earlier.
2:- In suspended volume if we unsuspende it. Does it expire all the images inside it?
Thanks,
Belse
Check Media Logs report for the media server that froze the tape.
When you run the report, select enough days to include the time the media go frozen (NBU keeps this info for 28 days by default).
If lots of information is displayed, you may want to filter the report to exclude 'Info' type messages in the report. This will leave you wilth 'Warning' and 'Error' messages.
Enable bptm log folders on all media servers and add VERBOSE entry in vm.conf on all media servers followed by restart of NBU.
About Suspended tapes - NBU will never automatically suspend tapes, unless you have configured Vault to suspend tapes when ejected. So, either suspending media is done by Vault or manually by backup admin.
Suspended tapes will not add more backups to tape.
When images on suspended media expire, the tape will automatically be unsuspended and become available.
Unsuspending a tape will NOT expire any images. Media will be available to be appended to.Frozen media happens when I/O errors happen to this media (or manually done by backup admin).
Frozen media will not add more backups to tape.
When images on frozen media expire, the tape will remain frozen and NOT become available.
Unfreezing a tape will NOT expire any images. Tape will become available again. (Not a good idea if you don't know why tape was frozen.)
