Full and differential backup going to different SLP

Hi,

We have backup configured in such a way that Full backup with long retention will go to a SLP1 ( suppose storage unit X) and differential backup will go to another SLP2 ( storage unit Y). My question is will this cause any performance issue? As lately we are seeing backups moving very slow in our environment so wanted to check on this point.

Thanks in advance.

  • by itself - no. performance issues are not due to the SLP.

You need to look at the loads on the Storage units, X & Y - what else is there? If there was nothing on else but this on X, but Y is really busy, You will see slow down if you move to Y.

  • Storage unit X and Y are on different media server. Its like full backup going to one media server and differential to another.

Will that cause any kind of issue?

  • We are ussing appliance here - one for master and 2 appliance as media server.

  • There is no global dedupe across different dedupe pools. You should split backups by clients and data types to get best possible performance and dedupe rates.
