Handshaking failed with backup restore manager

Hey All, I have just started receiving the following message when attempting restores from one of my legacy netbackup environments: 08:51:00 Status of restore from image created July 1, 2010 4:00:16 PM PDT = handshaking failed with server backup restore manager Setup is as follows: server Sun T2000, solaris 10 Netbackup 6.0MP4 Library IBM 3584, partitioned Drives ts1120s (7 of them) the server was previously configured as a master\media with an additional media server. We had to retire the media server 2 months ago, so i moved all the media over into the master server's media pool. everything was working fine until this week, nothing was changed on the server, other than 1 drive being replaced in the library due to failure, but I am able to backup to the drive just fine. Any ideas on where i should start looking would be helpful. Thanks Paul

  • Seems media server was not decommissioned properly... Reading your original post - did you perform any other steps besides moving "all the media over into the master server's media pool"?

You will need to have a look at bprd log on the master server to see which media server is selected for the restore.

Based on entries in bprd log we might be able to suggest next step...

  • Have you a FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER = <old_host> <new_host> entry in bp.conf?

    Or media host override?

  • Yes I was able to do restores up to a week ago, now it just errors out when actually running the restore.

I set the media override and failover server and restarted netbackup but that doesnt seem to help...

  • the media server wasnt decomissioned properly, it died during a patching cycle and we never were able to get it back online.
As it was a legacy server that we were trying to retire we just left it...

I will check the logging and look at that doc and let you know

    THanks!
