Hardware upgrade problem

Hi,

I'm in the process of upgrading our old NetBackup Enterprise environment from 6.5.6 to 7.5.0.4.
Because our old server is an x86 one, I did set up a new server on x86_64 hardware with SLES 11 SP2 installed.

The hardware upgrade guide says, I should perform a full catalog backup on the old server, and import it into the same NetBackup version on the new server.
Unfortunately I can't install 6.5.6 on the new SLES 11 SP2 machine, because it uses a 3.x kernel which isn't supported by NBU 6.5.6.

Is there a standard procedure to deal with this problem?
Of course I don't want to loose my historical backups or my configured policies.

    Any possibility to first install SLES 11 (without SP)?  
    If so, you should be able to install 6.5.6 on new master because SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 is supported as from version 6.5.5. See 6.5 OS Compatibility Guide: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH70729

    I am having the same issues and are planing a 2 strep process where I upgrade the hardware, OS and cluster software to a level where it's supported on both 6.5 and 7.5 before upgrading to Netbaackup 7.5

    I have not heard of any standard procedure for dealing with a issues like this.

    I was talking about this document - to be more exact, it's a hardware refresh guide:

    Of course, I could reinstall the server with SLES 11 SP1 or lower.
    I was just hoping for a solution which doesn't require me to downgrade the OS version.

    But if this is the way to go, then I'll swallow the pill.

    Yes, I know TECH77448 very well - we quote it here almost every day.
    (Symantecs!  I call pdf docs 'guides or manuals' , TECH docs I refer to as TechNotes).

    I don't think there is any other way than to migrate and upgrade in a multi-step process...

    That's fine for me and I'll go ahead reinstalling the server.
    Excuse me for the confusion - I wasn't aware of the difference between TechNotes and guides.
