hosts are running backup agents with NDMP support on port 10000

Hi,

Servers are running backup agents with NDMP support on port 10000. This allows someone to query and get information about the version of software, operating system and patch level. Would like to restrict access to the service or disable the use of NDMP.

Does NDMP by deafult included in the agent install? How to disable NDMP from running. Agents versions are of below:

4.2  5.1  6.1  6.2  6.3  6.4  7.1

Thanks for help

  • I'm not completely sure what you're asking, but the Security Guide has a brief table that discusses when and how NetBackup NDMP uses port 10000 (which they inconveniently type as "10,000" if you're trying to do a string search):

Symantec NetBackup 7.5 Security and Encryption Guide
     http://symantec.com/docs/DOC5185 (see pages 138-9)

Port 10000 (WITHOUT the comma) is also covered in a blurb in the NDMP Guide:

Symantec NetBackup for NDMP 7.5 Administrator’s Guide
     http://symantec.com/docs/DOC5164 (see page 84)

I hope this helps, but if it does not, please try rephrasing your question and ask again!

  • Try to rephase this:

If the backup agent has NDMP installed on hosts, but NDMP is identified not needed to use, rather than uninstall NDMP, what is other way to disable the NDMP from loading, restrict access to the service or disable the use of NDMP..

Don't want port 10000 being opened and can be queryed

    Thanks

  • Netbackup connect to port 10.000 not from port 10000 on the NDMP device. Netbackup itself does not use port 10000 and will not respond to any queries.

    Hope this explain :-)
