Hot Catalog backup hangs

New backup environment.  Backups and restores are running fine.

Hot catalog backups kick off, 1 parent and 3 child jobs.  The 3 child jobs finish with status 0, but the parent will run for days and not complete.  The catalog is tiny.

 

This is a Master running AIX 5.3 ML8

    Here's the fix...

     

    NetBackup 6.x fails on AIX running downrev versions of the C++ runtime libraries. Updated libraries from IBM are required. http://support.veritas.com/docs/292450  

    Run this and check for   9.0.0.1  version.lslpp -l | grep xlC

    If you haven't already you could try restarting NetBackup and/or deleting & recreating your catalog backup policy.

    seeing the same thing here. Parent querys the DB and goes off to never never land.

     

    Master and Media servers are:

    AIX 5.3 TL07

    Netbackup 6.5.2a with ETrack 1322956 (nbpem fix)

     

     

    Catalog is basically empty (New Install), no reason it should hang here.

    the database also replies to a nbdb_ping

    Does sound like an AIX / 6.5.2a specific bug to me.

     

    I did have issues with catalog backups after an upgrade from 6.0MP5 to 6.5.2 (I didnt bother with the 6.5.2a patch and ran full backups after upgrade instead) wherby I was getting status 2 failures on some of the child jobs. After much aggrevation, we found that some "garbage" in the hosts file was causing the problem because after creating a new host file (with identical entries) all kicked off and has been working fine since. No idea how the file came to be corrupted.

     

    I would chase this up with Symantec they may have it as an item in 6.5.3 ....

    I am running master and meida on AIX 5.3.6 with netbackup 6.5..2a and I am not having any issues with my Hot Catalog ( I this on two different masters).

     

    have you verified the file list to backup?

    I may be wrong in assuming that the HotCatalog backup uses the same file list that the cold catalog backup uses.

     

    so go to Catalog on the the left, right click and configure, go to the Files tab and verify the list of files you see and try to spot anything wrong.

    Our shop is on 6.5, AIX 5.3 TL7, and we see the exact same issue reported here. We've been assured that this is addressed in 6.5.2, but this thread seems to contradict that theory. Anyone have any tips on moving from 6.5 to 6.5.2?
