How to configure storage unit for an OST diskpool over a different media server

Hi,

I have a Master server which has two media servers,

Now i would like to configure a Storage unit for a diskpool created on Mediaserver2,

However while creating the storage server on master, when selected the Disktype as OpenStorage, Mediaserver2 is not being listed.

Where same media server is being listed when disktype is Basic.

Can any one let me know what could have went wrong here?

Thanks,
Sagar

  • Can i assume that this is an Advanced (Enterprise) Disk Pool that you have created?

If so then it should be selected as Disk - sub type Advanced Disk

Please give us more details about what this disk pool is if the above does not apply

  • Have you installed OST plugin on Mediaserver2? Have you added credentials for Storage Server on Mediaserver2?
  • Sorry just noticed that this is an OST disk Pool

In that case open it up under the Devices - Disk Pools section and add in the media server as being allowed access to it

You may need a service re-start to register it ready for the STU creation

Otherwise use the wizard from the top level of the Admin Console

  • Thanks for reply,

When i tried to added crendentials for Mediaserver-1 on mediaserver-2, it fails with with below error

"Authorization error, verify username and password (101)", even though provided valid credentials.

What could be the reason for this?

    Thanks,

    Sagar

  • What kind of Open Storage you are using ?

I have had it configured recently on quantum DXI 8500 and this is how it works:

1> There a OST tab under which managed users tab, create the username and password for the OST.

2> In the NBU console go to Credentials- Open storage and create the new storage device. Make sure to use the same username and password that you used in the open storage device. Add all the media servers that you need.

3> Create the disk pools with the same storage server name.

4> Create the STU and you should be able to see the media server.

Note: Make sure to use the same username and password that was used in the Open Storage device while configuring the Storage server in the NBU console

  • Did your OST vendor give you a config guide to be used with NBU?

The NBU SSO manual gives an overview, but there are some differences for the various vendors.

For Data Domain, the high level steps are as follows:

    • Add hosts entries on media server and DD
    • Install OST plug-in on media server
    • Restart nbrmms
    • Verify plugin with 'bpstsinfo -pi'
    • Add credentials on media server: 'tpconfig -add -storage_server dd22 -stype DataDomain -sts_user_id username -password password'

Detailed steps in DD OST Admin Guide.
