  • yes, you can put the tapes from your 5.x robot into your new robot with the 6.0 master.

However they will come in as scratch tapes.

So before you put them in write protect them.

I would even put them into a separate volume pool that no policy uses until you can import them.

If they are already scratch, meaning you are ready to overwrite them, good, just put in the scratch pool (don't write protect).

If they have valid images on them that you need to restore from you will have to do the phase 1 and phase 2 import.

Once they expire un-write protect them and move to the scratch pool.

We are assuming that they have unique barcodes that do not exist on the tapes that are in the new robot.
  • Hi J.Hinchcliffe,

I understand your procedures and they were very useful. Thanks for such a lengthy reply , i think i understand the phase 1 and phase 2 steps however i am not able to see the "IMPORT IMAGES" TAB
i use Veritas Netbackup (6.0MP6 Enterprise Server)

I am working from Netbackup tm 6.0 Sys admin guide on page 270 it shows an Import Images tab. I cannot see this, it has all the other 6 taps but not the Import Images tab :(

  • That is where the 'phase 1' import comes into the picture:

Have a look at the Admin Guide and TN 278948 (links posted by Andy).

You have to 'Initiate Import' to do a phase 1 import to scan tape headers.

After that step is done, you will be able to Import (phase 2). This step will scan the tape to build the file list in the image database.
  • It depends on if you are using the windows console or the java console - they look very different.

So look under the "actions" on the menu bar or right click the images that you have highlighted on the bottom of the screen.
