Increase MAX_MEMORY under nbj.conf

Hi guys,
When we run Netbackup Administration Console recently, error message: "Memory usage exceeds 83% of the available memory, increase the value of MAX_MEMORY in nbj.conf file"

I'm not sure to what value we should increase the memory and what is the impact on this changes to the master server. Appreciate the help from anyone.
Thanks.
  • Jess,

    Here is th s skinny.....

Do you run the console off the master? Meaning is the master a a UNIX server and you as a user export your display and run /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/jnbSA & ? If you do and you increase the memory setting within nbj.conf then yes it could effect your master ability to back stuff up.

If you run java console from you Billy desktop then you are using the memory at the destop level, hence not effecting the master servers memory.

If you log into the Billy master server and run the java console then your in the same boat as the fist paragraph.

    The key here is....

Memory is cheap the days, buy more and cant hurt.

Or just use the java console from you Billy desktop and leave the let the master have all the memory.

    Cool?

  • James,

I'm running the administration console using a software - ReflectionX from my desktop. It will log in to my master server using Commomn Desktop Environment, and hence issue the command jnbSA.

Which category I'm belonging? Run console from the master or run from my desktop?

    Thanks.
  • Hi Jess,

Yours belongs to first paragraph's (i.e. running jnbSA from master server). As what James suggest, try installing JavaGUI onto your desktop and run the admin console leaving your master/media server dedicate for backups (although I find that its a bit slower than running from master server).
