Is Oracle 12c supported on RHEL 7?

  • Nowhere is it listed that Oracle 12c NETBACKUP agent is supported on RHEL 7. I want to know when it will be.

    Thanks.

  • It does state:

Added support for Oracle 12c    2014-05-01    NetBackup 7.6.0.2

    https://symwisedownload.symantec.com/resources/sites/SYMWISE/content/live/SOLUTIONS/126000/TECH126904/en_US/nbu_76_db_scl.html?__gda__=1430508891_1ddcb66bdc4093b23b51073500af82f2

I'd take this to mean it's supported as Redhat 7 is supported from 7.6.0.2 too:

    Enterprise Linux 7    x86-64    64    Y    64        Y    Y [1]    7.6.0.2

  • ...but the DB SCL goes to the detail of listing combinations of Oracle version + OS version + NetBackup version:

    https://symwisedownload.symantec.com/resources/sites/SYMWISE/content/live/SOLUTIONS/126000/TECH126904/en_US/nbu_76_db_scl.html?__gda__=1430543627_339566161ef4f21314b19e3191a74ca5#database_agents-oracle_database

...but does not list RHEL 7 specifically.

  • Exactly. I'm pretty sure it would be fine but I would really prefer something that says that combination is officially supported...

  • I think we all know what the official line will be.   If it's not listed as supported, then it isn't supported.  Sometimes the DB SCL can be out of date... and sometimes, whilst an OS + NBU combination may have been marked as supported, it can take a few days/weeks (hopefully not months) before the more specific DB + OS + NBU combination is marked as supported.

  • No support for Red Hat 7 and Oracle 12C according to the compatibility matrix.

Veritas support Oracle 12C on Red Hat 5 or 6.

Only Veritas know when Red Hat 7 and Oracle 12 will be supported. The best advice I can offer is to contact local Veritas office for that query.
