liveupdate server - which updates

NBU 7.6.0.3, Windows 2008 R2 and Solaris clients

i'm finally configuring a LiveUpdate server by following this steps http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH211022 but i'm stuck at what updates to include in the "liveupdate" folder of the server.

since i have a (still) mix of 7.5, 7.5.0.5, and 7.6.0.1 clients, should i include all updates that leads to 7.6.0.3 from 7.5 or just from 7.6.0.1? will the clients on 7.5 know what updates to pull to reach 7.6.0.3?

  • i've gone thru the liveupdate document and there's no mention on how to or what to include in the liveupdate folder except the release updates. so what i'm doing now is download the 7.6.0.1 RUs, make sure all my pre-7.6 clients gets updated to 7.6.0.1 then once done, i'll downloaded the 7.6.0.3 updates so that it'll push this to the now 7.6.0.1 clients.

  • LiveUpdate is not a 'pull' from clients. It is a 'push' that is initiated by a LiveUpdate policy on the master. I believe all of this is documented in LiveUpdate manual and the download Readme's. Not sure if you will need to push 7.6.0.1 before latest patch - will see if I can find documentation a bit later today.
  • so far, all the docs i've read says to dump all the contents of the NBLUxxxxx.zip files in webserver.com/liveupdate folder and that the liveupdate agent will take care of "pulling" the appropriate ones based on architecture.
