Malware scanning of VMware images residing in OST devices
Hello colleagues:
I need to verify if we can scan VMware images which reside in OST devices (HPE Catalyst and/or Dell DataDomain).
I have configured my environment with NBU 10.4.0.1, byo RHEL 9.2 media server. I am able to scan Standard and Windows workload type but not for VMware type. The error that appears in the scan job "Skipping backup image: ClientName from scanning due to reason: Instant access capable copy not found"
I have testing Instant access for the VM used to scan the image and it is not possible to use IA. I know that VMware workload type is compatible with malware scan, but I wonder if actually the image need to reside on MSDP storage server instead of OST storage server.
I dont find any compatibility document regarding this, have you experienced this problem?.
Thanks and best regards

From what I now vmware workloads can not scanned using an OST device. Only FS backups can.
OST devices (access included) are not "capable" of doing a VM Instant access restore. And Instant access is mandatory for malware scanning. what an OST device can do is at hardware compatibility guide.Do not confuse Instant access with Instant Recovery. The results are essential the same (instant restore a VMware) but the technique is different.
