Media ID doesn't match requested Media

Receiving the following in duplication Job Details:

"Error bptm (pid=287275) incorrect media found in drive index 2, expected 6000L9, found C6000L, FREEZING 6000L9" (emphasis mine)

Barcode reads EC6000L9 (8 characters).  I have tried to delete the media, says it's "allocated" - no images on tape, so I expired using "bpexpdate -d 0 -m 6000L9" and then deleted before it was snapped up again by the job.  Re-inventory robot, barcode looks right, media ID looks right, but when it mounts, I still get the above error.  It's like the barcode is associated with this incorrect media ID, even though I delete the tape.

MEDIA_ID_BARCODE_CHARS = 1 8 3:4:5:6:7:8

There are ~10 tapes like this in the robot that end up frozen and no images are written.

C6000L does not have any images and I get "requested media id is not assigned to this host in the EMM database" if I try to delete via bpexpdate.

How do I make it correct?

  • Hi

    Once you have set the barcode rule as you want (see my second para), delete the unassigned media and re-inventory. You then need to relabel the media without the verification check flag. Right click on the media and select the label option, uncheck the verify option and then ok. Should resolve the issue. Going by the error message, the tape media ID was originally set to use the middle 6 digits of the barcode (eg. "2:3:4:5:6:7").

    As an aside - unless you have a good reason for the barcode rule you have shown, it is better practice to set this to the first 6 characters of the barcode (i.e. "1:2:3:4:5:6"), this would make the tape media ID EC6000. The last two characters of the barcode indicate the media type (and if you include these it can cause you grief if for instance you get a barcode DC6000L6 - clearly a different media, but with your rule it would match the existing media).

    Cheers

  • Agree with David - label should say " EC6000" and not 6000L9.

    The L9 is a  media-type identifier, and as such not part of the barcode. The media identifier prevent mounting tapes into tape drives that aren't' compatible.
