Medias getting frozen

Hi Team,

On one of my server , all jobs operations showing mounting state and not going to writing state and medis get into frozen state within seconds again and again.4

Thanks in advance

  • Most likely a problem with tape library.  Look to the hardware logs for clues.

    * update *

Note you said: On one of my server

In that case check Event Viewer if Windows or messages file if Linux.

  • Also check the library operations with robtest. Make sure that you can mount and unmount the tapes with that tool. If not, it will throw an error code we can use.

TECH83129 has more information on using robtest to test.

  • + details from activity monitor I'd try robtest first as advised From media server bptm log (verbose 5) robots log (with VERBOSE in vm.conf, needs restart of ltid) Create empty files in volmgr dir ... ROBOT_DEBUG and DRIVE_DEBUG (needs ltid to be restarted) Messages or Event logs
  • Netbackup will freeze tape if they have previous been used by a different backup software.

You can remedy this by running a Netbackup label operation on the tapes,

  • Any reason why you did not mention or select the OS on this server?
NBU needs the OS for I/O. So, all troubleshooting must start at OS level.

There are many reasons why tapes are getting frozen.

First step is to get the Details tab of the failed job.
Please copy all text and post here.

The next place to check is Tape Logs report for this media server.

Next step: Create bptm log folder on this media server (this folder should always be created on a media server). NBU I/O attempts will be logged here.

To troubleshoot hardware issues, VERBOSE entry in vm.conf, followed by restart of NBU, will log messages and errors in syslog on Unix/Linux and to Windows Event Viewer System and Application logs.
