Missed & Scheduled Backups

Hello ,

Master : Solaris OS5.10,NB 7.1.0.3v

Kindly share your thoughts for below,

1) Is there a way to find out the Backup policies which have missed the last night schedules ?

2) Is there a way to find out if any 'client' scheduled backup got missed ?(as I noticed in one of the policy few clients did not get triggered and some did )

3) Can a script be implemented for (1) & (2) ,if yes kindly share the script contents

4) Can both 'Frequency' & 'Calendar' be configured for same policy i.e., 'full' & 'incremental' respectively

    (Ques. 1 - 3) Ops center provides SNMP email alerts and there is one for a 'hung' job
        that should provide the information you require. Basic Ops center is provided 
        from the Netbackup Admin Console at no extra cost. Below is a link to the Ops

    (Ques 4.) A policy can contain more than one schedule. Calendar-based and frequency-based schedules can be mixed
              in the same policy:

    1) 2) & 3) There is no native command or report to indicate whether PEM (Policy Execution Manager) erroneously missed a schedule - which, whilst highly unlikely now, has been known to happen in the long distant past.  To do this you would have to write some quite complex code to parse the policies and schedules and recent activity monitor - to determine whether a job should have run, but didn't.  Not at all easy.

    4) Yes you can mix schedule types - but please do your reseach first, otherwise you could be in for heaps of confusion and pain.  Maybe this will help:

    @jmontago : Thanks for the response . Unfortunately,we do not have any 'opscentre' in our environment .

    Hence I am bit worried what else could be the alternative :(

    @sdo : Thanks to you as well .If you or any script genious can share the scripts to achieve my queries (1 & 2 ),then I would be thankful to them

    Else let me wait and see if any Script guy can help me on this requirement

    Can I ask why you think you need to develop such a tool/utility/script/program?

    If you are having any issues with your environment I strongly suggest you upgrade as I notice you are on 7.1.0.3 which is an old version.

    7.5 & 7.6 have numerous fixes for nbpem (Policy Execution Manager)

    Ideally you should upgrade to 7.6.1.1

    Oh - one last thing - salt shaking policies & schedules versus activity monitor (to detect missed jobs) requires that no-one deletes any records in the activity monitor - and that you retain a 'policy and scehdule list' for the time period being anlalyzed - so that you don't end up basing the results on policies and schedules which have since been modified.

    Not sure why you need scripts if Symantec has already done it in OpsCentre: Reports > Client Reports > Clients Not Backed Up It's free. Why not install it?

    Thanks all for the response . I will push for the 'OPSCENTRE' installation in our environment
