vmoprcmd -up <drive index>, but its showing incvalid drive index, though the drive index is correct

D:\Appli\veritas\Volmgr\bin>tpconfig -d
Id  DriveName           Type   Residence
      SCSI coordinates/Path                                            Status
****************************************************************************
0   HP.ULTRIUM2-SCSI.000 hcart2 TLD(0)  DRIVE=1
      MISSING_PATH:{4,0,4,0}:HUP6C064RB                                DOWN

  • Once you configured tape devices, NetBackup identify these with id of controller, bus, taget, lun. When these IDs are changed from previous ones by some reasons(major one is rebooting against non-persostent binding devices at OS level) NetBackup reports it is missing.

  • Please check by two point if the drive is visible on the host:

    * Windows Device Manager

    * Output of 'scan' command

  • In addition to above excellent advice, check OS Event Viewer System log for errors.

    NBU needs the OS to see/access devices, therefore troubleshooting must start at OS level.

  • yes its visible from OS end. The server got rebooted due to which drive went down

    but i would like to know the concept of drive throwing error of missing path under devices.

    I have although reconfigure the drive and restarted the NB services which has solved the issue.

    As per my previous post - Check OS Event logs.

    NBU has no direct path to devices. It need the OS.
    Therefore all device-related issues should be checked from OS point of view.
    Check for HBA and/or tape driver errors.

    We don't know if your OS is W2003 or W2008.
    If W2003, check that Removable Storage service is stopped and disabled.
