I wanted to monitor backup progress. sometimes, backup jobs are stuck without any progres in amount of data written. I wanted monitor such instances and send out notification. can anyone tell me how to design solution for this

That is when backup job fails. But, I wanted to see the progress of backup. if the amount of data written is progressing or not. sometimes, I notice backup job is in running without actually writing anything to media. how can i detect such scenarios. Or is there any nbu timeout parameter that we can set so that job fails immediately with in reasonable time out period if there is progress in backup
OpsCenter may help to a certain extend - try it out. If you have specific issues you want to monitor you have to write custom scripts.

The output from bpdbjobs -all_columns is scripting frindly. If you can write scripts in Perl it will be a no-brainer. Bash/Ksh with awk/sed can do the same.
field2=backup
field3=active
