nbstserv & nbevtmgr are not getting started for new install

2 daemons (nbstserv & nbevtmgr) are not getting started. I tried restarting the NB services & also have rebooted the machine once but the daemons are not starting. Due to this the storage unit is not getting configured.

However when NB services are restarted I am getting confirmation that “NetBackup Event Manager started”

  • Please show us output of the following commands on the master server:

    bpclntcmd -self

    nbemmcmd -getemmserver

    nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose

  • New install of what?!

    Master server?
    Media server?

Startup looks sort-of like master server....

    Linux version?
    NBU version?

Can this server lookup own hostname?

Do you have entries like these in /etc/hosts on this server?

    127.0.0.1       localhost

    IP-address      servername      servername.fqdn

  • Hello Marianne,

    Thanks for getting back...

    Please find the answers below..

Its a New install of Master server

    Linux version: Linux XXXXXX 2.6.18-300.el5 #1 SMP Thu Dec 1 13:48:30 EST 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

    NBU version is 7.1.0.4

The DR setup is in a isolated network where DNS is not implemented. we have correct host entries & we are able to do bpclntcmd & bptestbpcd for the server itself

I have restarted the NBU services, rebooted the server, restarted the PBX services but still the same issue. I start the event manager daemon from GUI & it stops immediately. While I am trying to create a STU it is giving me “25 - cannot connect to socket”

  • Please show us output of the following commands on the master server:

    bpclntcmd -self

    nbemmcmd -getemmserver

    nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose

  • Is there an entry for localhost in the /etc/hosts file ?

    Martin

  • Hello Marianne

I figured out the issue & it is what you suggested.. there was descrepency in the host file which was leading the nbstserv to fault... was a samll issue but lead to big impact :-)
