NBU site decom

Good day,

We are in the process to decom one of our data centers. We have a Master server that's a VM and 2 physical Media servers. We dont have any backups left and only require the long term data for restore purposes.

Would spinning up a VM as a Media server be sufficient in this instance as the new image owner when we decom the physical servers?

    HI Maverick101

Then what you are proposing is fine, and there would be no requirement to P2V any existing media servers. Just reassign media ownership to the new VM (this can be done as part of thee media server decommissioning using nbdecommission).

    Cheers

  • Hi Maverick101

What you are proposing might be fine. The question is what the long term data media are the backups held on? Tape isn't officially supported on a VM (although I know it can be made to work). And if the data is on MSDP, you have to issue of migrating the data to the VM (again it can be done - most simply by P2V the media server).

      Thanks David,

All of the Data reside on Data Domain. We don't use tape at all and the MSDP pools will be empty as its only used for daily retention.
