NBU7 for vmware problem with virtual center

good morning, I just finished to upgrade nbu from 6.5 to 7; I have a problem for vmware policies backup. on my virtual center I have set up the DRS to move the server between esx. When i create the vmware policie, when I choose the server on the virtual center the machine is on a specific esx but if the drs move the virtual machine from a esx to another the backup failes because it doesn't find the new location of the machine. could you please help me to solve this problem? thanks in advance Angelo

Hi, if i understand your question....
I just finished to upgrade nbu from 6.5 to 7; I have a problem for vmware policies backup.
on my virtual center I have set up the DRS to move the virtual machine between esx servers.
When i create the vmware policie, when I choose the virtual machine on the virtual center the machine is
on a specific esx but if the drs move the virtual machine from a esx to another the backup failes
because it doesn't find the new location of the machine.
could you please help me to solve this problem?

You had a VCB proxy server on 6.5 - right? Now on 7.0 your backup server (master possibly) is backing up the snapshot  and virtual machine files. What netbackup for vmware parameters are you using for the backup policy?

This should not be a problem, as virtual center is managing where the virtual machine is located. It should be transparent which esx server the VM is hosted.
The only problem I could see is that DRS might be moving the VM during a backup. But would DRS be allowed to move a VM that is in snapshot mode? I shouldnt think so.

If you expand more on your problem/symptoms /errors and also any information around your infrastructure. This is helpful in the forums.
  • In Media and Device Management | Credentials | Virtual Machine Servers, did you specify the credentials to the VMware Virtual Center Server? If you configured credentials for the ESX hosts themselves, instead of the Virtual Center server, I could see that being the problem.

I did a quick test in my NetBackup 7 lab (we're still on 6.5.3 in production) - I backed up a VM, moved it to another ESX host and then was able to back it up again without any problem.
