NBvwcPlugin Install

Hi,

 

Can anyone shed light on the process to install the VMware Web Plugin as described here https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000095689

 

I don't get the step 4 (shown below). Where exactly should it be copied to, a server has many a folder.......

  1. In the downloaded plug-in folders, locate the netbackup-vwc-plugin.zip folder. Copy that folder to the plug-in package host web server.

     

    The vSphere Web Client server can be the plug-in package host.

 

Because in step 7 it wants you to type in the URL to find the plugin. I'm sure copy a file to server doesn't magically make it available via the Web Server that is configured on that server.

 

The registration utility connects to the vCenter server and determines whether the plug-in is registered. If the plug-in is not registered, the following dialog appears:

Enter the URL of the plug-in package host and click Register. The netbackup-vwc-plugin.zip folder was copied to this host at step 4.

 

What is missing here, or what am I missing?

    You can copy it to the vcenter server, to the directory:

     

    C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\docRoot\netbackup

    You need to create/configure a simple webserver (in Windows you can use IIS), put the required zip file into root directory of the web-site you've created and paste the URL into the setup window.

    If your web server is http and not https, you need to add the following line to VWC  webclient.properties file (and to delete it after NBvwcPlugin successful installation)

    allowHttp = true

    Hi,

     

    Thanks for the reply. My client has installed the Web Server of VMware on their vCenter, so I suppose Ill check there. What does VMware use for a web server, and what would the default root be?

    The web server does not necessarily have to be hosted on the vCenter. It can be any other reachable server in the same LAN, assuming there is no firewall in between. If you use this procedure ( https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/323972 ) to setup the web server then the root directory will be located at %systemdrive%\Inetpub\Wwwroot

    Thanks for the reply. It seems a bit daft though that you'd need to setup a web server to host the plugin so you can then download the plugin to another webserver? Or am I missing something?

     

    Is this a Veritas implementation or is this just the way that plugins get deployed into Vmware Web?

    Hi Enrique

     

    I got it working today. The location for this installation was slightly differenct  (INSTALL_DRIVE:\ProgramData\VMware\vCenterServer\cfg\vmware-vpx\docRoot\) but your post got my going on the correct track. After I got the location correct I could successfully register the plugin. Unfortunately it still didn't appear in the Vcenter Web so I had to do some more googling and then found this note https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH230836.html

    I created the com.symantec.netbackup.plugin-7.7.2 folder in INSTALL_PATH\some folder\some folder\vc-packages\vsphere-client-serenity (once again my client's installation wasn't exactly as per the note and seems non-default in terms of VMware). After the restart of the vmware web service it all worked.
